Polaris Primary Clutch Holder Tool

You cannot torque a primary clutch bolt correctly without holding the clutch, and you cannot hold a primary clutch correctly with a screwdriver through the sheaves. This is the Hunterworks USA-made holder tool that does it properly — it engages the clutch so you can break the bolt loose and torque it back to the factory spec without marring a sheave face or bending a cover.

• 2016-2022 Polaris RZR Turbo, any model
• Polaris RZR RS1, all years
• 2018-2023 Polaris Ranger XP 1000
• Polaris Ranger SOHC 1000, all years
• Any machine running a Hunterworks-brand primary clutch

Important: Hunterworks-primary machines include the RZR 1000, the General, and the 2017 and 2018 Ranger 1000. Do not use this tool on those three machines unless they actually have a Hunterworks primary clutch installed. With a factory primary, it is the wrong tool. If you are not certain which primary is in your machine, call (601) 771-0070 before you order and we will work it out with you.

How it is used

Pull the CVT cover, fit the holder to the primary, and it takes the load while you break the clutch bolt loose. Reverse it on reassembly and torque the bolt to spec. There is an explanation and how-to video from Hunterworks that walks through it. The product photo shows Can-Am clutches, but the principle is identical.

Clutch bolts are not a place to guess. An undertorqued primary bolt backs out and destroys a crankshaft; an overtorqued one strips. Either outcome costs many times what the tool does.
