Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000 Belt Guide: Which Belt Fits and How to Change It
The Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000 was built for exactly the kind of riding that is hardest on a CVT belt. It is a heavy machine, geared low, and most people who buy one use it to crawl rocks and pick their way through technical terrain rather than to blast open desert. That is the worst-case duty cycle for a belt: the engine is working, the ground speed is barely above walking pace, and the belt is spinning slowly enough that almost no air is moving through the clutch housing to carry the heat away.
None of that is a design flaw. It is physics, and it applies to every belt-driven side-by-side. But it does mean that KRX owners should understand their belt better than most. Here is which one fits, what it replaces, and how to change it without making the next one fail early.
Which belt fits the Kawasaki KRX 1000?
The Hunterworks CVT drive belt for the Teryx KRX 1000 and KRX4 1000 is made in the USA and covers the full model run. Hunterworks has been building CVT belts for over twenty years, and this one uses a stronger cord and a higher-temperature compound than the belt the machine left the factory with.
| Machine | Years | Fits? |
|---|---|---|
| Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000 (all models) | 2020-2025 | Yes |
| Kawasaki Teryx KRX4 1000 (four seat) | 2020-2025 | Yes |
| Teryx KRX 1000 eS, Trail Edition, Special Edition | 2020-2025 | Yes |
| Kawasaki Teryx / Teryx4 800 | All | No — different machine, different belt |
| Kawasaki Ridge | 2024-2025 | No — see Ridge parts |
This belt fits the KRX models only. The Teryx 800 and the KRX share part of a name and nothing else that matters here.
Kawasaki part numbers it replaces
The Hunterworks KRX belt replaces Kawasaki part numbers 59011-0047 and 59011-0068. If you have a receipt or a dealer parts diagram in front of you, those are the numbers to match against.
If you would rather run something else, we also stock SuperATV G-Boost heavy duty belts for the KRX in both the Extreme Badass and Mud Monster versions, built for higher heat and more abuse than stock.
Why KRX belts run hot
When a KRX owner calls us about repeated belt failures, it is almost never the belt by itself. Four things account for most of it:
- Sustained low-speed crawling. The belt is slipping in the sheaves under load, and slip is heat. This is not something you can buy your way out of entirely — but you can avoid making it worse by keeping the machine moving rather than feathering the throttle at a standstill on an obstacle.
- Restricted CVT airflow. The intake and exhaust ducting has to be sealed and clear. Mud packed into the intake, a cracked tube, or a duct that has worked loose will cook a belt no matter how good it is.
- Belt deflection out of spec. Too tight and the belt runs hot all the time. Too loose and it slips on engagement and glazes. Check it every time a belt goes in, not just when something feels wrong.
- Glazed or scored sheave faces. A polished clutch face will not grip a new belt properly. If the sheaves are shiny, a new belt is a short-term fix.
Read the old belt before you throw it away. Even wear across the whole belt means it simply reached the end of its life. Frayed cords along one edge points at alignment or a worn clutch. A glazed, shiny surface points at slip — deflection, or heat, or both. Chunks missing usually means something got into the housing or the belt was run hard after it had already overheated.
How to change a KRX belt
- Let it cool. Level ground, parking brake on, engine off. A clutch housing right after a hard technical section will burn you badly.
- Remove the CVT cover. Take the outer clutch cover off and expect belt dust. Keep track of the bolts — they are not all the same length.
- Get the old belt off. Work it over the secondary first, then off the primary. Do not pry it over the sheave faces with a screwdriver. Scarring a sheave ruins every belt you put in afterward.
- Inspect and clean. Wipe or blow all the belt dust out of the housing and off both clutches. Look at the sheave faces for glazing, scoring and heat discoloration.
- Check the ducting. While the cover is off, confirm the CVT intake and exhaust tubes are seated, uncracked and clear of mud. This is the step people skip and then repeat the whole job a month later.
- Fit the new belt with the directional arrows pointing the correct way of rotation. Over the primary first, then into the secondary.
- Set deflection to spec, then reinstall the cover with the ducting properly connected.
If you are doing deeper clutch work — pulling the primary to service it or replacing clutch components — the Hunterworks Kawasaki clutch holder and torque tool fits all 2020-2025 KRX and KRX4 models. It holds the primary so you can break the bolt loose and torque it back to specification without damaging anything. Clutch bolts are not a place to guess at torque.
Break the new belt in
A new belt has a smooth, unworn surface that needs to seat into the sheaves before it can grip properly. Give it 25 to 30 miles of easy, varied-speed running before you put it into serious rock work. No crawling with the throttle feathered, no deep mud, nothing that makes it slip while it is still green. Ten minutes of patience here regularly doubles how long the belt lasts.
FAQ
Does the KRX4 use the same belt as the two-seat KRX?
Yes. One belt covers both across 2020-2025.
How long should a KRX belt last?
There is no honest number, because it depends almost entirely on terrain. A KRX that spends its life on trails and forest roads will go a very long time on one belt. One that rock crawls every weekend will not. Carry a spare either way — the KRX is a machine people take a long way from the truck.
Is the Teryx 800 belt the same?
No. The Teryx and Teryx4 800 are a different platform and use a different belt. See Teryx parts.
Do I need a clutch kit?
If the machine is stock and on stock tires, usually not. If you have gone up substantially in tire size, the clutching is no longer matched to the machine and a belt on its own will keep failing. Call us and we will talk through it honestly rather than selling you a kit you do not need.
