Polaris Xpedition Drive Belt Guide: Which Belt Fits the ADV & XP (2024-2026), OEM 3211186 and 3212358
The Polaris Xpedition is a different kind of machine from the rest of the lineup. It is built to be loaded up and driven a long way from the truck — which means a belt failure on an Xpedition is not an inconvenience, it is a recovery. The ProStar 1000 Gen 2 makes 114 horsepower and the ADV and XP both weigh a lot more than a RZR, so the CVT is working harder at lower ground speeds than most owners expect.
This guide covers which belt fits, the OEM numbers it replaces, what tools you need, and the two maintenance habits that decide how long the new belt lasts. If your machine is a different Polaris, start with our Polaris belt fitment guide by model and OEM number.
Which belt fits a Polaris Xpedition?
Every 2024-2026 Xpedition — ADV, ADV 5, XP, XP 5, in Premium, Ultimate or NorthStar trim — uses the same CVT belt platform. The Xpedition shares its clutch layout with the 2024-and-newer RZR XP 1000, which is why the same Polaris OEM belt numbers show up on both.
| Machine | Years | Polaris OEM numbers | Hunterworks belt |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xpedition ADV / ADV 5 (all trims) | 2024-2026 | 3211186, 3212358 | HW 925RM |
| Xpedition XP / XP 5 (all trims) | 2024-2026 | 3211186, 3212358 | HW 925RM |
| RZR XP 1000 (same clutch platform) | 2024-2025 | 3211186, 3212358 | RZR XP 1000 belts |
Hunterworks has listed more than one part number against this platform over the life of the machine — you will see both an HW 925RM and an HW 925TC referenced for the Xpedition. Both replace the same OEM numbers. If you want to be certain which revision suits your year and how your machine is set up, call us at (662) 631-9254 before you order rather than guessing from a chart. That is a two-minute phone call that saves a return.
Why the stock Xpedition belt wears out
Nothing is wrong with your driving. The duty cycle on this machine is simply hard on a belt:
- Weight. A loaded ADV 5 with gear, fuel, passengers and a roof is a lot of mass for a CVT to get moving. Every launch is a slip event, and slip is heat.
- Low ground speed, high load. Overlanding is crawling over rocks, climbing two-track and towing — exactly the range where there is little airflow through the clutch housing to carry heat away.
- Heat has nowhere to go. Once the belt gets hot enough to glaze, the sidewalls go shiny, grip drops, slip increases, and it gets hotter still. That loop is why belts fail suddenly rather than gradually.
The Hunterworks belt for this machine is made in the USA and built thicker, wider and longer than the OEM belt. The extra width puts more belt surface against the sheaves for more grip, and the geometry lowers engagement RPM slightly, so the machine moves off idle sooner instead of slipping its way up to speed. The cord is higher tensile strength than OEM and the compound tolerates more heat before it glazes.

How to change an Xpedition drive belt
- Park it properly. Flat ground, machine in park, engine off and cool. The clutch housing holds heat for a long time after a hard day.
- Pull the clutch cover. Work the bolts out in a cross pattern and keep track of them. Expect belt dust.
- Get the old belt out. Spread the secondary and walk the belt off the sheaves. Do not pry against the sheave faces with a screwdriver — a gouged sheave shortens every belt you fit afterward.
- Inspect before you install. Look the sheaves over for grooving, step wear and heat discoloration. Blow the housing out completely. Check that the CVT intake and exhaust ducts are clear and still sealed at the boots — on a machine that sees dust and water, this is where belt life is quietly lost.
- Fit the new belt the right way round. Note any directional arrow or printed text on the belt and match the original orientation.
- Reassemble and torque to spec. Clutch fasteners are torque-critical. A bolt left loose lets the clutch walk on the taper and ruins both the clutch and the crankshaft.
For primary clutch work, the Polaris RZR / Xpedition clutch tool package gets you the holder and the spider nut tool together, the HW Universal Polaris primary clutch puller lists the Xpedition in its fitment, and the Polaris primary clutch holder tool lets you break and re-torque the bolt without damaging anything.
Check alignment — especially on a new-generation machine
If you keep replacing belts, the belt is probably not the problem. Clutch misalignment loads one side of the belt harder than the other, and it will destroy good belts indefinitely without ever telling you why. You cannot see it; you have to measure it.
The Hunterworks CAT-621K alignment tool covers the 2024-2025 RZR XP 1000 and Xpedition. It sits across the crankshaft and the transmission input shaft and shows whether shaft spacing and alignment are within spec. Check it any time the engine or transmission has been out, and check it before you spend money chasing a belt problem with parts. Our walkthrough: how to check clutch alignment on a Polaris UTV.
Break the new belt in
A new belt needs to seat evenly in the sheaves before you lean on it. Give it roughly the first 25 miles easy — no full-throttle launches, no towing, vary the speed rather than holding one RPM. On a loaded touring machine this is worth real belt life. Full procedure: how to break in a new CVT belt.
FAQ
Does the Xpedition ADV use a different belt than the XP?
No. ADV and XP share the drivetrain and the belt; the difference between them is the cargo box and roof, not the CVT.
Does the 5-seat version use a different belt?
No. ADV 5 and XP 5 use the same belt as the 2-seat versions. They are heavier, which is a reason to carry a spare, not a reason to buy a different part.
Will a RZR XP 1000 belt fit my Xpedition?
The 2024-and-newer RZR XP 1000 shares this clutch platform and the same OEM belt numbers. The 2014-2023 XP 1000 does not — that machine uses OEM 3211180. Do not order by machine name alone across generations.
How often should I replace it?
There is no mileage figure that is honest for every machine. Inspect at every service, replace on condition — glazed shiny sidewalls, cord showing, cracked or missing cogs, visible width loss — and carry a spare if you ride far from help.
Should I carry a spare?
On this machine, yes. The Xpedition exists to take you a long way out. A spare belt and the tools to fit it turn a trip-ending failure into an hour on the side of the trail.
