Polaris Ranger XP 900 Drive Belt Guide (2013-2019 Fitment)
Polaris Ranger XP 900 Drive Belt Guide (2013-2019 Fitment)
The Ranger XP 900 is one of the most-worked machines Polaris ever built. People plow with them, tow with them and haul feed with them. All of that load goes through one rubber belt, which is why the belt is the part most XP 900 owners end up shopping for — often more than once.
This guide covers which belt fits a 2013-2019 Ranger XP 900, how it differs from machines with similar names, how to change it, and what to do if you are going through belts faster than you should be.
Which belt fits a Polaris Ranger XP 900?
The 2013-2019 Ranger XP 900 — including the EPS trims and the Crew XP 900 — uses the belt that replaces Polaris OEM part numbers 3211149 and 3212326. Our USA-made option is the Hunterworks 2013-2019 Polaris Ranger XP 900 belt, built with a proprietary construction — stronger cord and a compound that tolerates more heat than the belt the machine came with.
| Machine | Years | OEM cross-reference | Shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ranger XP 900, XP 900 EPS, Crew XP 900 | 2013-2019 | 3211149, 3212326 | Ranger XP 900 belts & tools |
| Ranger XP 1000, Crew XP 1000, NorthStar | 2017-2026 | Different belt — do not use the XP 900 belt | Ranger XP 1000 |
| Ranger 1000 SOHC (non-XP) | 2020-2025 | Hunterworks HW NONXP | Ranger 1000 non-XP |
| Polaris General (non-XP) | — | 3211196, 3212326 | General |
| RZR XP 900 / XP4 900 | 2011-2014 | 3211142, 3212326 | RZR XP 900 |

The XP vs non-XP trap
This is the single most common ordering mistake on Polaris machines, and it costs people money. "Ranger 900" and "Ranger XP 900" are not interchangeable, and neither are "Ranger 1000" and "Ranger XP 1000." The non-XP machines use a different belt, and on the 1000 SOHC the alignment tool is different too.
Check the sticker on the machine or your title before you order. A belt running at the wrong height in the sheaves is being destroyed by geometry rather than by power. If the sticker is gone, call us with your VIN year and seat count and we will work it out.
Why Ranger XP 900 belts burn
A Ranger XP 900 that eats belts almost never has a belt problem. It has one of these:
- Low range is not being used. Lugging a loaded XP 900 in high range at 8 mph means maximum clutch slip and maximum heat. Use low for plowing, towing, food plots and anything slow.
- CVT airflow is blocked. Check that the intake and exhaust ducting is connected, sealed and clear. A duct that has vibrated loose or packed with mud will cook belts indefinitely, and a new belt will not fix it. Free to check, and the first thing we ask about on the phone.
- Clutch misalignment. If the crankshaft and transmission shafts are not parallel and correctly spaced, the belt gets twisted once per revolution. It never announces itself, it just quietly shortens the life of every belt you install. The Hunterworks alignment tool for the 2014-2019 Ranger 900 measures it in minutes. Check it every time the cover is off, and always after engine or transmission work. Full walkthrough: how to check clutch alignment.
- Bigger tires than stock. Going up in tire size raises the effective gearing and makes the clutch slip longer on every takeoff. If you have just fitted 29s or 30s, a clutch kit is usually the next conversation, not another belt.
- Glazed sheaves and packed belt dust. Shiny sheave faces cause slip, slip causes heat, heat causes more glazing. Clean the housing when you change a belt.
How to change a Ranger XP 900 belt
On the XP 900 the belt lives behind the clutch cover on the left side of the machine. Plan on 45 minutes the first time.
- Park on level ground, engine cold, parking brake on, key out. Let the machine sit — the clutch cover area gets hot enough to burn you.
- Remove the driver-side inner fender or access panel, then the clutch cover bolts. Keep them organized; they are not all the same length.
- Note how the old belt is routed and which way the part numbers face. Take a photo before anything moves.
- Hold the primary with the Polaris primary clutch holder tool and break the primary bolt loose. Do not jam a screwdriver in the sheaves.
- Pull the primary with the HW Universal Polaris primary clutch puller, which is sized for the Polaris crankshaft taper. A wrong-size puller is how crankshaft threads get ruined.
- With the primary off, the belt comes out. Inspect glazing on both clutches, the old belt for cracks or missing cogs, belt dust in the housing, and the ducting.
- Check alignment now, while the belt is out. This is the only convenient time to do it.
- Install the new belt with the printing facing the way the old one did, refit the primary, and torque the bolt to the factory specification with a torque wrench — not by feel.
- Refit the cover and ducting, every duct seated and clamped, then break the new belt in: gentle, varied throttle for the first 20-25 miles, no towing and no hard pulls. See the belt break-in procedure.
When a belt is not the answer
If you have done all of the above and are still going through belts, the clutch calibration is wrong for how you use the machine — usually showing up as shudder on takeoff, bogging under load, or a machine that will not hold RPM while plowing. A complete clutch system fixes engagement and belt life together instead of treating the symptom. We stock the DuraClutch for the Ranger XP 900, the Crew version, the DuraClutch R Series for 2014-2019 and the matching DuraClutch belt 35-049. If you ride long and hot, the clutch inline blower for the Ranger 900/1000 pulls hot air out of the clutch cover. Not sure which route makes sense? FAQ
What Polaris part number does the Ranger XP 900 belt replace?
OEM 3211149 and 3212326, for 2013-2019 Ranger XP 900, XP 900 EPS and Crew XP 900.
Does the Ranger XP 900 belt fit a RZR XP 900?
No. The 2011-2014 RZR XP 900 uses the belt that replaces OEM 3211142 and 3212326. Similar name, different belt.
Does the Crew XP 900 use a different belt than the two-seat XP 900?
No — same belt for 2013-2019, two-seat and Crew. The DuraClutch kits do differ between the two, so order the Crew version for a Crew.
How long should a Ranger XP 900 belt last?
There is no honest mileage figure — it depends on how the machine is used. A trail-ridden XP 900 in low range with clean ducting can go thousands of miles. The same machine plowing in high range with blocked ducting can cook a belt in a weekend.
